Bijan Modarai is Professor of Vascular Surgery at King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He qualified from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals (UMDS) in 1998 and trained on the South East Thames surgical rotation. He obtained a PhD in 2006 and completed his Higher Surgical Training as an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer, spending a year as an Endovascular Fellow at The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery to King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in 2012. He was awarded a Hunterian Professorship by The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2016, secured a British Heart Foundation Senior Fellowship in 2017 and became Professor of Vascular Surgery in 2018. His clinical practice is focused on endovascular aortic repair, predominantly complex branched and fenestrated endografting. He also leads a translational programme of vascular research aimed at developing novel diagnostic and treatment strategies for vascular diseases. He recently chaired the European Society for Vascular Surgery radiation protection guidelines committee, is Vice Chair of the British Heart Foundation Project Grants Committee and is Director of the King’s College London Centre for Doctoral Training in Translational Research in Advanced Cell and Gene Therapies.
