Ian Loftus is Professor of Vascular Surgery at St George’s, London UK. He has s particular interest in complex aortic conditions and surgery.
He is the immediate past President of the European Society of Vascular Surgery. He is also Past-President of the Vascular Society of Great Britain (VSGBI) and British Society for Endovascular Therapy.
He has been involved in the development of the UK National Vascular Registry (NVR) from its onset, and continues as Chair of the NVR Programme Board.
He is currently a member of the National Clinical Reference Group for vascular surgery, Council Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSE), Chair of the Research Committee, Global Affairs Policy and Advocacy Committee and Caldicott Guardian at RCSE.
Other previous roles include National Aneurysm Screening Programme, RCSE Clinical Tutor for Critical Care, Chair of VSGBI Audit and Quality Improvement, and Professional Standards, and member of the Department of Health working party on peri-operative care.
Professor Loftus has published over 300 papers and book chapters. He was co-author of the 2018 European Guidelines for the management of aortic aneurysms, co-author of the forthcoming European Guidelines for the management of thoracic aortic pathologies, and co-editor of the ‘Companion to Specialist Surgical Practice, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
